Meet Susan Bremmer, Lake Havasu Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
I've been serving breastfeeding families as a Lactation Consultant since 2002. I have worked with HUNDREDS of families in my career, keeping my philosophy of "meeting mom and baby where THEY are in their journey and helping them to THEIR goal".
This means, "no judgment here, Mom". I will respect your wishes and desires, and I am looking forward to being a part of your journey by sharing my years of experience with evidence-based information.
I have been an IBCLC - Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant since 2002. This credential requires me to have 75 continuing education hours every 5 years to keep up on the current breastfeeding research and best practices. I usually do monthly in-service education to keep current. I am also a retired La Leche League Leader of 30+ years. Plus mom of 2 grown daughters (and a cute little grandson).

How I support Arizona families as a Lactation Consultant:
You may be wondering what an IBCLC is. It stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and represents the Gold Standard of breastfeeding care, offering you highly trained, evidence-based, and HIPAA-compliant breastfeeding support services.
I have worked as a Lactation Consultant in Private Practice, Pediatric Offices, and as the Lead Lactation Consultant in a Baby-Friendly Hospital, including NICU babies. I have even worked in a holistic, boutique setting which included infant chiropractic, massage therapy, and postpartum counseling. Each of these settings has given me a broader viewpoint on how to best support breastfeeding families.
HOW I CAN HELP:
My breastfeeding support is not limited to sore nipples and poor latches, but can also assess, evaluate and advise for referral regarding tongue/lip ties and lots of education and resources, as needed. My range of lactation expertise in assessing infant breastfeeding challenges is very broad and will advise you of any concerns I observe, and refer to specialty providers when needed. Most often, however, simple education & support make all the difference for my lactation clients.
My approach to lactation? Keep it Simple - and listen to parents & baby.
A holistic, respectful approach to lactation support:

Here I am all those years ago with my newborn first daughter!

...and my second daughter (smiley cat!)
Like so many others, my path to becoming a Lactation Consultant began with my own breastfeeding challenges:
My dream of helping other Moms began with the birth of my first daughter. Along with the struggles I had with latching, weight gain, lack of baby knowledge and dealing with judgement from others, it was HARD. During this time, I reached out to a wonderful IBCLC, who guided me through my challenges. Life suddenly became so much easier with someone I could share questions and ideas with. She was so supportive. I was able to breastfeed my first daughter for 14 months.
My next child was born 3 years later at 34 weeks gestation. and was tiny and had to spend some time in the NICU for jaundice and observation. She was a hard one to get nursing due to separation and nipple confusion. I was such a great breast feeder with my first, I was stunned to realize I needed help again!
My favorite IBCLC, once again came to my rescue and got us on the right path, much quicker and easier than I thought possible. My second daughter went on to breastfeed for an extended period of 39 months. Such a difference between my first and second children and experiences!!
